About The Book - From My Tribe to Yours

A South African farm childhood, a journey of faith, and life between cultures.

From My Tribe to Yours

From My Tribe to Yours is a lyrical and deeply personal memoir of growing up on South African farms and the long journey that carried one life across continents, cultures, and faith.

Raised among the landscapes of the South African Bushveld, the Highveld, and the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, my childhood unfolded in a world of farmhouses, dusty roads, rivers in flood, and long African horizons.

Those early years — filled with adventure, danger, laughter, and loss — were shaped by the rhythms of rural life and by the complex society that surrounded it.

But this memoir is not only about land.

It is also about identity.

Raised within what was often called the “White Tribe of Africa,” yet brought up non-racially by parents who lived by honour and respect, I grew up slightly out of step with the society around me — an oddity in a country moving rapidly toward historic change.

The friendships, tensions, and awakenings of those years would quietly shape my spiritual journey.

That journey eventually led me into Christian ministry and, unexpectedly, across the sea to the United Kingdom. What began as a five-year calling became a far longer pilgrimage — one that brought its own encounters with belonging, culture, misunderstanding, and loss.

From My Tribe to Yours moves between worlds:

  • barefoot childhood in the Bushveld and Highveld

  • The turbulent years of a changing South Africa

  • Life and ministry in KwaZulu-Natal

  • and the experience of cultural migration to Britain

Warm, reflective, and often deeply moving, the memoir explores questions many people recognise:

  • What does it mean to belong?

  • How do we carry our past into a new world?

  • And where, finally, is home?

Toward the Sea

The journey that begins among farm roads, cattle gates, and riverbanks slowly widens into something larger — a story of leaving, searching, and learning that the places we come from remain within us long after we have crossed oceans.

In the final chapters of the memoir, that journey arrives at a quiet moment beside the sea — a place where memory, faith, and the long road from Africa meet.
